Visit to Jeff's Tree

On one evening I kayaked over to Jeff's tree. I couldn't get very close, but I could see the brass plaque.

Closer view, still not very close.

Very peaceful evening. The water is so still you can see the island relected in the water.
More relfections. The camera didn't do this sight justice.

Kayaking

Kelsie's ready for her first kayaking trip.

The girls on the water.

Autumn takes in the view.

It's getting late.

Other Activities

Autumn and Kelsie at archery practice.

Autumn climbs the fire tower.

Dan at the top. How's the view from up there?

Autumn and Kelsie feed horses at the auction.

Birds and Butterflies

We discovered a Phoebe's nest on the back porch. Hard to tell how many little ones are in here. They didn't wake up for the photo.

Mother Phoebe can't wait for us to leave.

We went back to the milkweed where we had seen Monarch caterpillars during our last visit. We didn't see Monarchs, but there were several of this Aphrodite Fritillary butterfly.

This Pearl Crescent butterfly was also in abundance.

The milkweed plants were teeming with life (click on the picture to enlarge).

New Additions

We brought up this table and chairs set for relaxing and eating outside.

I made this mosaic with glass and rocks from Lake Nancy. I like it outside because the mirrored title glows in the moonlight.

Flea Market Finds

A trip to the Hayward flea market netted some great finds for the cabin: iron brackets to hang the new lanterns, blue depression era vase, wooden postcards of wildflowers, three red hobnail glass candleholders, and a box of crystals. The crystals came home with me, but the rest is at the cabin.

I found a new wooden shelf for the living room.

Mosiac supplies from Roxy's.

St. Croix River

Our annual visit to the St. Croix River. It was just a little deeper this year.

River rocks.

I thought this was a really interesting grass growing at river's edge, but further research revealed it is actually a fern. Horsetail fern to be exact.

The butterfly weed in full bloom.
This porcupine thought he would blend in with the branches when he ran up this pine tree. Needless to say, he wasn't very friendly.

Pepin loves to hunt

After a chase back and forth over the front steps, this chipmunk narrowly escaped Pepin's jaws. She spends every waking hour hunting for them, and this was the closest she's gotten. Thank goodness for trees.

Pepin's quarry changes to frogs.

Pepin didn't catch any, but a couple did take the time to pose for a picture.

Blueberries

It was a great year for blueberries.

Autumn and friend Kelsie hard at work picking.

We got enough for blueberry pancakes and left plenty in the woods.
